Bridge4Good: Origin Story
During a time full of tragedy and uncertainty, my community urged everyone to “#stayhome”. But I wondered: what about those who don’t have a home?
At Teens in AI’s #YouthVsCovid hackathon, I was determined to build connectivity amidst isolation. My team (four other motivated teenage girls and I founded Bridge4Good, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit platform facilitating donations to homeless shelters and food banks across the US.
Over the next several months, I helped grow our core community of volunteers. In August, we launched our first virtual seminar, an Introduction to Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning seeking to empower everyone to use technology to serve the under-resourced. At the event, we emphasized the many ways for each and every individual to act: donate, volunteer, run a campaign, become part of the solution.
The $1500 we’d raised from the seminar was just the first step. To date, we’ve spported 15 charities in eight states, and supported youth-led and female-led campaigns. We’re now setting up high school chapters in Atlanta and in New York City.
